HODNYL: VOID SHELL VEST (LONG DESCRIPTION)
The Void Shell Vest is a study in disruption — a protective form reimagined through absence, movement, and controlled fragmentation. Built from a lightweight, insulated shell, the piece carries volume without weight, structured to hold shape while remaining fluid in motion. Its surface is sculpted through organic paneling and gathered construction, creating a layered, almost living texture that shifts with the body.
Cut-out voids define the garment’s identity. Negative space is carved into the silhouette, exposing and framing the form beneath while breaking the expected continuity of a traditional vest. These openings are not random — they are intentional interruptions, creating balance between coverage and exposure, protection and vulnerability. The result is a piece that feels both armored and undone at the same time.
The central zip closure anchors the design, running cleanly through the distortion, providing structure against the asymmetry of the surrounding forms. Each panel is subtly inflated, giving the vest a padded, sculptural dimension that adds depth without bulk. The matte black finish enhances its presence — absorbing light, emphasizing shape, and reinforcing its quiet intensity.
Designed to be layered, the Void Shell Vest transforms whatever sits beneath it. It’s not a standalone basic — it’s a statement layer that redefines the silhouette of the wearer. Whether styled over minimal pieces or integrated into a full Hodnyl look, it introduces contrast, tension, and dimension.
This is not protection in the traditional sense — it is protection reinterpreted.
A shell with fractures. A structure shaped by absence.
Void, made wearable.
